The Value of rest
Rested, we are ready for the world but not held hostage by it, rested we care again for the right things and the right people in the right way.
In our fast-paced world, rest is often seen as an afterthought, a luxury to indulge in when we’ve completed all our tasks. But the truth is, rest isn’t an optional pause—it’s essential for our wellbeing, our growth, and our capacity to show up in the world with intention and purpose.
David Whyte’s poem “Rest” offers a deep reflection on the importance of rest:
"Rested, we are ready for the world but not held hostage by it, rested we care again for the right things and the right people in the right way.
In rest we reestablish the goals that make us more generous, more courageous, more of an invitation, someone we want to remember, and someone others would want to remember too."
Rest gives us the space to reconnect with ourselves, recalibrate our priorities, and realign with what truly matters. In those quiet moments of stillness, we find clarity about what we care about most—and how we can show up in a way that invites deeper connection, generosity, and purpose.
Rather than rushing from one task to the next, we can allow rest to become an integral part of the rhythm of our lives, helping us not only recharge but grow stronger, wiser, and more intentional with our actions.
In rest, we remember who we are and what we are meant to offer the world.
